For those of you who know me I have probably already told you how many days it is until my birthday and for those of you who don't it's 24 days away!! I still get as excited as I did when I was 5 or 6 and will probably insist that my husband wakes me at 4am to sing me Happy Birthday as that is the exact time of my birth. Sad I know but it is only once a year but some things never change no matter how old you get.
Tom can get his own back as his birthday is 6 days later but at least he was born at the decent hour of 9am
I am in the middle of writing a book and I am hoping to get it finished before the end of the year so that we can launch it before Xmas and you can add it to your stocking list or tree pressie list as we call it in our house. Feels very strange talking about Christmas when it's 32 degrees outside but then planning in business is so important that sometimes we have to look at life like that. I don't mind really as the weather has been so terrific that I can't help but enjoy it and that always helps me feel more motivated to get on with tasks that I don't do naturally very well like spell checking!!
Over the last few months I have been doing lots of interview coaching workshops and coaching candidates on maximising their career potential which has been excellent. I have been so lucky to work alongside some truly great people and get slightly annoyed when I find out how badly they have been treated by the recruitment market and sometimes by prospective employers and so in essence that is what my book is all about. I can't tell you too much as I will get my knuckles wrapped by my lawyer and probably my publisher.
I often recommend great candidates to other headhunters as I may not have the right position at the time they contact me and I do this with great care as my reputation is on the line here. I ask all the candidates to give me feedback on how they were treated so that I can feel confident going forward that I have made the right decision.
I would be really interested to hear from some of you as to how you have been treated in your search for a great job and even more pleased to hear about the good experiences you have had so please drop me line emma@matchsticks.biz
I know I am not perfect and can't always get back to all of the candidates that contact me but hope that when we do speak they feel that they have benefited from our time together on the phone or face to face as I know I always do. I learn something new every day and this week even came across a new vertical that I had not heard of " Rolling Stock" and for those of you out there who work in the rail sector then you will know what I mean!! Thanks Bryan.
Enjoy the fab weather and do please drop me a line as I will use some of these wonderful stories in my book and include you in the acknowledgements section.
Have a great week
Emma
p.s I have added a new book to the list on the blog so please have a read as it is excellent
Emma, thanks for the gracious comments about my book. New Lifers as I call visitors to my site tell me all kinds of frankly awful tales of their treatment by their former employers and recruiters so I'm looking forward to contributing some stories and reading your book. Gareth Osborne, Head of the Recruitment and Employment Federation www.rec.uk.com, spoke at EREC 2006 about his desire to encourage the raising of standards in the industry so I'm looking forward to working with him on that as I'm sure many other people are!
