Work Hit for Six as Ashes Grips City
In the City, business activity in Europe's biggest financial services centre slowed down as brokers and bankers turned their attention to the action across town at the Oval !!
And the point is ? The overall volume of shares traded on the stock market was down at 2.4bn from the usual 3bn , And my point is ? The stock market was really hit for six !!
It always surprises me that we can do something truly wonderful and so magnificent, yet still ,there is always someone, who finds the negative in a moment of outstanding achievement. Why is that? Are we a nation of fault finders always looking for the negative, or is it something else that I just can't put my finger on. I would love to know your thoughts on the subject, so, drop me a line and I will add you comments to my blog. (link at the side saying email me)
So a great day for England and another trophy in the bag for our sporting heroes whom seem to have a passion for leaving the Aussie's in a charcoal state of mind . We do know that they are fantastic at BBQ's and that is one sport, if entered into the Olympic schedule they would surely win hands down. Although a few of my close South African friends would challenge me on that.
I do have to admit that the cricket did affect my productivity yesterday, a lot of my candidates cut me short during their lunch breaks as they were stealing a few more minutes of action before heading back to the office. I want to say that I am grateful to Ashes series as it has really given me something positive to talk about when cold calling . I think that after 20 years of " it's as clear as mud" to now at least having a very " brief understanding" of the great game. This will stand me in good stead when talking to my learned best friend who's husband has played for England and the majority of my client base who have shown a keen interest in the game.
I am sure that the City will indeed re-coup the lost shares over the next few days and probably send us into a record breaking result . I am also sure that there will be somebody there waiting to complain or find fault in that outstanding achievement from the City. Bah Humbug !!
So, finally , well done England and I am looking forward to seeing all the cricket team in a revealing calendar in WHSmiths around Christmas time...Move over Johnny and Becks.
